3rd Grade
Instructor: Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Hensen, Mrs. Crandol, Ms. Carnette
As we begin the second semester, we will move along steadily through the third grade curriculum. Students should continue to grow as independent readers building competencies with reading fluency, comprehension strategies, and test-taking skills. The focus in math will be on problem solving and number sense. Third graders will learn about the operations of multiplication and division, explore fractions and probability. Social Studies units will include Ancient Civilizations, Government, and Famous Americans. In Science students will continue adding to our inquiry notebooks as we cover units on Living Systems, Cycles in Nature and Earth Patterns. Nightly reading should be a priority for each student! Later in the semester we will begin intensive review and practice to have students well prepared for SOL testing in May. Thank you for supporting nightly homework and continuing to communicate through Friday Folders and agendas.  Watch for current news items in our weekly newsletters.
